Mano po sa mga tito ko dito sa MyPBA. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

RE: PBA venues aside from Rizal Memorial and Loyola Gym

Araneta Coliseum - main venue from 1975 to 1984, alternate venue from 1995 to 1998, renovated in 1999 - the only PBA game played that year was the final game of the season between SMB and ALA, main venue again in 2000 up to present.

ULTRA/NASA/Philsports - main venue from 1985 to 1992, main venue again in 1999, alternate venue from 2000 to 2005.

Cuneta Astrodome - main venue from 1993 to 1998, alternate venue from 2005 up to present

Makati Coliseum - alternate venue from 1999 to 2001

Ynares Center - alternate venue from 2000 to 2008

San Juan Arena, Ynares Arena, Olivarez Gym, Ninoy Aquino Stadium - new alternate venues

Speaking of Ninoy Aquino Stadium, does someone remember the 32-million peso controversy? Parang kinuwestyon noon kumbakit inabot ng 32-milyon ang pagtayo sa NAS. That was in late '88.

RE: 24-second shotclock

Ser Percy, I think the PBA still used the 25-second shotclock after the 1982 season. Nung ULTRA days kase 25-seconds pa rin ang gamit nila. If I'm not mistaken, they've finally implemented the 24-second rule in 1993, the year they transferred to Cuneta wherein they have a more sophisticated scoreboard and shotclock supplied by Daktronics.

Radel,

Yeah, the multi-million controversy started when the Ninoy Aquino Stadium was put up by then Gintong Alay Executive Director Arturo "Bong" Ilagan to provide for a new venue to be used in the 1991 Manila Southeast Asian Games. Nothing came out of this controversy though, as reports have it that Ilagan was closely associated with then Cory sibling Peping Cojuangco. I think this is the same Ilagan that now runs the billiards association.

As for the shotclock, my recollection indeed was the 24-second shot clock only happened in the 90's. It was triggered by a new scoreboard bought from the United States. And since I don't recall if the ULTRA ever improved their score board, and recalling how the Cuneta Astrodome bannered their "state-of-the-art" facilities, then the 24-second shotclock may indeed have started in 1993 as I previously wrote.

Not that my reputation depends on it, pero I am sure that the 24 second shot clock happened around 1982 to coincide with the renovation, at least of the playing court and equipment of Araneta Coliseum.

I recall Abet Guidaben beating the then 25-second shot clock in the 1981 Reinforced Filipino Championship series between Crispa and U-tex. It was the last time that the 25 second shot clock had any significance for me.

Afterwards, in 1982, they adopted the 24 second shot clock, to coincide with the adoption of the NBA court dimensions in the Araneta Coliseum, with the shaded lane finally becoming rectangular in shape instead of the FIBA-imposed trapezoid shaded lane.

I'm sure of this Ser Percy kasi ULTRA days na nung nagsimula ako manood ng PBA. I grew up watching the PBA use the 25-second rule until they transferred to Cuneta in '93.

If you remember Game 7 between Ginebra and Shell in '91, with the 25-seconds shotclock winding down, Ginebra's shot clock was reset to 5-seconds after Benjie Paras swatted the ball out of bounds off Chito Loyzaga's attempt. It so happened that the gameclock also reads at 5-seconds so Ginebra has had full use of it though there was a second left after Distrito's basket.

I still remember Bodjie Castro shouting "5-seconds shotclock!" if the shotclock falls less than 5-seconds and "10-seconds shotclock!" if the shotclock falls between 9-seconds and 6-seconds. I'm sure of this Ser kasi 'di ko na inabot 'yung 1981 season.

Araneta was also used in early 1999 until its renovation, I even remembered Tanduay, Ginebra, and Pop Cola playing in the old coliseum. One more, PBA started using Cuneta as early as 2001, and yeah, Ynares is still being used.

^Yep, I saw a game live in Cuneta in 2001 Gov. Cup. That was after the All Saints' Day, BGK vs. TNT, debut of Bubba Wells who replaced Mark Jones.

And yes, there were a few Araneta games in '99 before the renovation.

I remember now, thanks.

The PBA does not use Ynares often lately. They've been playing at Ninoy so that more fans can watch.

If you watch GMA's noontime show Party Pilipinas today, it was taped as live at Ynares last Tuesday.
